Summary Critique SUK3 Part3 Henry

Dear Author!
Firstly, I am to say that your summary stands out by the apt usage of linking devices.
Such words as "nevertheless", "besides", "furthermore", "to make things worse"
make your summary both cohesive and coherent. Secondly, your text is well-structured and contains only relevant information.

Ambrose Evans-Pritchard, in The Telegraph of October 23, 2013, analyses the
Europe’s deflation crisis and policy error.
The author believes if policy error continues, Europe will be trapped in
deflation as Japan is now. Besides, debt ratios in Europe are already soaring
up. Nevertheless, the EU authorities linger to deal with the problems.
Deflation causes a dramatic debt rise which is lethal once it exceeds 300pc.
The situation is becoming only worse.
Furthermore, the Europe’s debt crisis strategy is contradictory. The states
suffering from deflation are coerced to ultra-austerity to offset lost
competitiveness against Germany. The author considers such policy to be
brutal, self-defeating and ineffective.
To make things worse, deflation influences private debt even more; here not
only the debt shoots up, but liquid assets come into play, so that small firms
could stay afloat.
Debt dynamics depends on inflation. According to Mr Darvas, the only way to
escape the deflation grave is to let the inflation grow. The ECB should
implement all possible measures to keep inflation rate at 2pc point at least.
However, the ECB stays inactive.
The author sees the way out from deflation in the Club Med allies’ teaming
up and forcing the reflation policy.

What I Learned (articles, prepositions, stylistic peculiarities, punctuation etc)

Hendrik SUK3 WS13 Part 1

Having proofread my “Dear Mr Bower Letter” I am to summarize what I have learned.
Actually, my week points are:
Articles (my mistakes were: __Russian language, __ Ukraine)

The definite article is required before the name of the language. Thus, I should have written “good command of the Russian language”.
The Ukraine. I was really surprised by the article “the” preceeding  Ukraine. I have found the article written by historian Andrew Gregorovich on this controversial issue.

According to this article, the name Ukraine, which first appeared in the historical chronicles in 1187, has been common in the English language for almost 350 years. In the earliest years it appeared without the definite article "the" but in this century the definite article increasingly preceded the name Ukraine.
The reason for this is that many Ukrainian immigrant scholars, due to their imperfect knowledge of English, used the form "the Ukraine" in their books thus helping to perpetuate this usage.
But what about the regular daily press in the USA, Canada and England? Even The New York Times (which once required it in its Style Guide) does not use it now. Neither do The Times (London), The Economist (London), Washington Post, TIME, Newsweek or Maclean's. News services such as Canadian Press, Reuters, CNN and Associated Press do not use the article. When the December 1991 referendum confirmed the independence of Ukraine the White House in Washington, D.C. officially announced that it would discontinue use of the definite article before the name Ukraine. You can read the whole article here: http://www.infoukes.com/faq/the_ukraine/
Prepositions (mistakes:  interest to, helpful in + Gerund)

1. The preposition "in" should follow the noun "interest".
     For instance:
My English teacher has awaken my interest in foreign languages and especially in English.
2. The structure "to be helpful in" is considered to be the gerund following phrase. That is why:
My roommate is very helpful both in correcting my mistakes and telling me interesting facts about American culture.

Style (mistakes: I'd like to...; I've to)
Our task was to write a formal letter. It implies that full forms are preferred to contractions.
  • As I would like to… ; I have to...
I refreshed my knowledge with the help of this link:

Punctuation

Comma is needed after the subordinate clause of reason.
For instance: As I don't know the way, I'll take a taxi.
Thus, I have corrected my mistake:

As I would like to acquire British pronunciation , there is still room for improvement.
The classification of subordinate clauses and

Quotation marks.   In English they are always " " not « ».

Other Inaccuracies
Rather curse than blessing. I do agree this idiom might be incorrect. I have found it in Upstream by Virginia Evans and maybe I have memorized it wrongly. I will check it as soon as possible (I don`t have my book here). I am to be more careful while using idioms. Anyway, I decided to substitute it with the phrase "perfect torture": I have watched CNN News (which for the first time seemed to be a perfect torture and is still very challenging)

W. Shakespeare and R. Burns.  As this is not standard English, it is better to focus on something more useful. Now I search for verses in standard English http://www.english-for-students.com/English-Poems.html A couple of days ago I have found a film My Fair Lady based on George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion. I have learned the song “Why can`t the English teach their children how to speak?”. I like both the style and pronunciation!
Luckily, now I now where to channel my efforts!

Hendrik SUK3 WS13 Part 2 Surprising Europe: Under Pressure Group 4: Viktoriia Nikitina, Ella Fedorchuk, Anita Bhatti

Africans in Europe:  The Most Risky Jobs

More and more Africans these days leave their homes for Europe. There are various reasons why they are forced to set off and seek their fortune overseas: from the dire poverty to a vain desire to grow rich. Very often migrants go to Italy, Spain and other European countries in order to earn enough money to start a new life and to support their families in Africa. The worshipped Europe is associated with possibilities and easy money for everyone. Parents persuade their children to go abroad as this is supposed to be the only chance to turn over a new leaf. Moreover, such parents are absolutely dependent on their sons and daughters. As a matter of fact, the countryside of Burkina Faso has changed a lot recently. One town – Beguedo – boasts a couple of newly-built houses and a well-equipped hospital. Just pay close heed to the flags on the latter: one of Burkina Faso, the other gives away the colours of Italian flag.
Obviously, they will tell you more. In fact, 5 thousand of inhabitants (with the town`s population of 20 thousand people) work in Italy. Supporting their families they have done even more: an Association of Beguedo Migrants in Italy spare no effort to provide a proper medical care for their countrymen. Parents are proud of their successful children. No doubt, Africans cherish hopes for better life in Europe. Unfortunately, Europe has many hidden traps in store for them. The most risky jobs in Europe. The curtain rises.

Drug selling

Lots of African migrants in Europe state that they are forced to do ‘illegal’ jobs. But is the word ‘forced’ an appropriate one to define the reason of getting involved in such illegal activities? In fact, no one really makes African migrants earn their living by selling drugs. It is their choice only. They keep on saying that they have been trying to find a ‘good’ job for months without success. But is selling wheat on the streets the best option?
Maybe, they just want to make easy money and such jobs as loading, cleaning or picking fruit and vegetables are beyond their possibilities. It seems that some of the migrants choose ‘easy’ money instead of good conscience and reputation. They claim to earn 70 euros a day for selling marihuana in the city centre of Barcelona and even 500-600 euros for cocaine.  But is the money earned in such an illegal way worth all the stress they suffer on a daily basis? It is an illegal and dangerous activity, you are always afraid of being caught by police. Nevertheless, there are still African migrants who consider selling drugs to be the best way to become rich.

Prostitution

Not only African men, but also African women come to Europe in search for a better life and wealth. While trying to find a good job offer, they instead often end up in prostitution. From that very moment, it is not about money but about losing their dignity. In many cases, women are brought to Europe by their family members but they do not realize that those relatives only want to destroy their lives. Once being involved in prostitution, they are promised to get papers and a normal job as soon as they have paid a certain amount of money. What the prostitutes are not aware of at the beginning is that they have to keep on paying sums of money without a way out of this vicious circle.  Those who try to escape from prostitution are threatened that their families will be harmed. They seem to be trapped forever.

It is certain that no matter what kind of risky jobs African migrants have in Europe, nothing is worth losing your dignity and entire life.

Hello, people :)
Let me share with you several ideas about my term paper.

1. Delegation of the EU to Ukraine.
I`d like to give a brief characteristic to the EU Council activity in Ukraine within this topic.

2. Human Rights as the Key EU Policy.
I`ll make an attempt to describe the EU policies in general and emphasize the Human Rights policy as the crucial one.

3. EU Educational Projects as an Essential Endowment to the Process of EU Borders Extension.
Being an ERASMUS MUNDUS student, I consider this topic to be very close to me. It will be quite useful to present this educational programme as far as I am in ;)

4. Euroclubs in Ukraine: Aims and Results.
Unfortunately, it`s really hard for me predict when my country will finally become an EU member, although there are lots of different activities aiming at accelerating of this process. Therefore, I am really interested in how it works.

5. The EU History as a Vital Part of the History of Europe.
I don`t want just to rake over the familiar ground... Thus, I`ll try to present all that material in a concise way, including the most important landmarks of the EU history.
